We started to break ground for our residential center in June 2022. In preparing to build the residential center, local artisans in Nigeria had to create the building blocks – the bricks from the literal dust of the earth. The process involved using local sand, a small amount of concrete compacted into blocks in forms and letting the sun do the rest. Using Christ as the cornerstone, our capital campaign, “The Living Stones” project, helped subsidize this incredible endeavor.
When completed, the center will include 14 residential suits with private bath for housing students, a chapel, classroom, kitchen, staff dining room, conference room, foodbank and welcoming reception area. The building is designed with a central courtyard with wide overhangs that will provide respite from the tropical heat and cross ventilation for each room in the absence of air conditioning. It will also serve as an outdoor learning environment and meeting place for students and staff. The building design encourages dedicated learning spaces to help prepare graduates to lead productive lives.
